RIVERTON. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

August 18. Mbtborolooical.— The past week has, been, on the whole, very fine, and two or three days were exceptionally so. The last three nights have been frosty. Territorial.— The Wallace County Council are fueling alarmed at their financial state, and a special meeting is called for the purpose of considering the matter of an extra levy on the rateable property throughout Ihe county. The last ordinary meeting ended by two members leaving tbe others without » quorum ; so it may be expected that the spacial meeting will prove pretty lively. It js a pity the Chairman (Mr Hirsr, M.H.8.) is absent at Wellington. Commercial —lt is niyead duty to report the for the present, winding-up of the Riverton Shipping 1 Company, the number of shares taken ud being in-t-uffieient to proceed withthe building ef the vessel at the river mouth. There is money in the. venture if properly run, and our local "millionaire" would benefit himself and the port by making a private success out of the public failure. t
