LOVELL'S FLAT. (from our own correspondent) July 15.

Political.— We have had the pleasure of healing tho three candtlates for political honours who are wooing the Votes of the free and independent of the Bruce district Last week they caino to tho front and gave us a taste of Parliamentary- ability in the speech-making line. New Bridge. -Tho bridge across Lovell's Fla', Creek has at last been completed and taken off the hands of the contractor. This work should have been finished fully a month before it was, and owing to the delay the public were put to great inconvenience. I hoar that a penalty of £1 a day for the delay was remitted by the County Council. Tho absurdity of naming a penalty ii apparent when it is not impossd. It is neither fair to the public nor to contractors, when penalties aro named in contracs, to silontly ignore them, as has been tho case in the abovo instance.'

School Matters. — I understand that the old school building has been handed over to the School Committee on condition that it be sold and the proceeds devoted to improving the school property. Farming operations are being pushed ahead vigorously, and a large area has already been ploughed, and should the present fine weather contiDue spring sowing will shortly commence. Bet Railway and CoAijrrr.— l hear that a. railway is to be constructed shortly from Lovell's Flat along tho east side of Tuakitoto Lake, to tap the large area of ooal that is known to exist all along the lake side. The Company which has been formed to work tbe coal has obtained a most valuable property, as thoro will be little difficulty in working the field, and the supply of coal is practically unlimited.
