July 15. Political. -Mr G. F. Richardson, who is coDtebtintr tbe Matautft seat with Captain Mackenzie and Mr Morri3, addreEßOd ft crowded meeting in Leahy's FTa'l, Wyndhalii, on Saturday last, when the following moiijn, proposed by Mr Milne, seconded by Mr Rae, was carried with acclamation — "That this meeting thank Mr Bicbardson for his address and s^ai^htforward answers, and express confidence in him as representative for Mataura."
Wyndham Ploughing MAtoh.— This annual event was contested on Friday last in a paddock which Mr Carpenter had kindly placed at disposal of tt l to Committee, situated on the "ridges." Twelve plough? competed in the senibr D.F., and tbe work executed, taking it all through, was first-class. The Ve.srs King, from Woodlands, carried off 'first and second lionoura; Mr Clark, of South Wyudbarn, coming in third. There were only two juniors i". Messrs Kohn and Co:, of Invercargill, oxtrnJed their uSual liberality in the shape of silver cups for junior double-furrow and swing p'oughs. After the da 's work was done an adjournment was made to Mr Leahy's hall, where a repast was in readiness that would take some rubbing out in your city. Mr Leahy hag a reputation for good catering, and last Fiid*y's was fully up to tho Btandard. Abaut 80 sat down. After the tables were cleared the company reassembled and did justice to the usual toasts.
