NASEBY.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) February 9. OUR SHOW.— -Naseby has been more than usually busy of late. First and foremost was the maiden show of the Maniototo Agricultural and P.'.storal Association, which, for a flrsc effort in a new district, must bo pronounced a' decided success. The Committee very judiciously fixed the bite of the show ia close proximity to the to»vn (in one ot Mr Jnder'o paddocks), and being favoured with glorious weather, the result was one "of the largest gatherings ever assembled in the district, about 000 persons being present dudng the afternoon. The wholo of the oxhibits, numberiug Homo 200, were vory creditable indetd, and not a few would have held their own in many more pretentious grounds. Keen competition prevailed in all classes, and the decisions o[ tho judges seemed to gh c geueial satisfaction. The Association is to bo congratulated upon the successful inauguration of its annual' show, and we may very safely predict that at no distant date Uie'Mnniotdto show will be tho recognised gathering for the farmors and graziers of tho jtif "rlor. As au indication th»t pur breeders are fully

alive to the advantacres of iraproviner thoir flocks, it may bo no:ed thit llcsars Turnbuir(Liuburi)), Mackenzie (KyeburtO, aiid Laidlawand Crawford (Mataka'iui), were among 1 the largest purchasars at tho recent Caitcrhop" fcale. Fasoy Kair.-- -The next Itig event we had was a fancy fair in aid of the funds of St. George's Church, and to furnish material for which I don't; know how many nimble n/.'gera have been assiduously at work for the last fivo or fix n.onths. Tlie rair was held in the town hall, which pioved almost inconveniently small for tho nisrhtiy clu^h of willing victims to the shilling radios and other recr.fjnifed swin— a.iem I I mean dod^ts «.f fancy fair;. One ot the features of the fair— which, by tho way, lasted thiee days — was the Maypole dance, very gracefully oxeeufctd twice each evening by a, dozen gorgeously • attired children of tender years, under the supervision of Mr W. Grumiiitt. Then there was a gipsy tent, where you couid have your fortune told for a shilling, ami a ttk-graph-omce which issued "collect;" telegrams to disoomlUed recipients, a flower-stall which dealt m numberless potted plants,- good, bad, and indifferent, and a refreshment stall. 'which dispensed the cup vhat cheers, and the confectioner in sweetmeats that inebtiati the best re-ulated aiomach. Tho stalls proper wero under the direction of Mesdames Hickson, Browne, Hicks, Inder, Atchoffi, Rogers, t ewis, Norman. Clarko.andlivahs.andlheSliadeaGcorire Bovan Hickson (2), and Caim-i, with assistants of both sexes too numerous to mention, as the auctioneers say Hospitali.— The annual mcctiug of the iiouct Ida Hospital was held abouta fortnight ago, the preeidert (Mr Inder) in the chair. Tho report for the ye.v- was of a mobc satisfactory character, botne 50 patients havng been admitted and all but two discharged cuiedor considerably relieved. 'Ihe financial affaire of ttiid institution continue to exhibit economical and wieful management, the total credit balan.e at the end of tha year being no les3 a sum than £sii6 43 ejd. The total iwcome for the year was £701 17a 7d, whilo tho expenditure amounted to £695 83yiOd Few, if any, timilarlv urcirnsUnced hospitals, in the Colony can show so satief ictory a balance sheet.

School i lection - -The annual" race iig of householricri Jor tho election of n school conaniUfcee was, 03 usual very poorly attended, only the outgoing fcommitteemen and two other peraoii3 being present. Tho following gentlemen were elected :— Revs. M'Oobh Smith a.rA Davis, Messrs Newman, lnder, M'Carthy, and Gufflo. The committee's vote haa been given for Messiv Mawrregor, Proctor, and Shand. '

t,KiCKET.— Saturday was a pa'a t'av amonp our cricketers, tho occasion being the_ return match with St. Bathans. 'I he game resulted in a decided win for tho iiasebv representatives, who scored B6 against their opponents/ 60 and 'there ia some talk of a nutch with tha Vincent County, and judging from the pliy exhibited on Situ day, a vety strong; team could be beketed to do La:t c for this county.
