Wellington, December 14th. The 25th of January is the day gazetted for the payment of property tax.

Matthew Michael Cleary, transferred from Hokitika, has been appointed gaoler at Auck, land, vice James Caldwell, granted a year's leave of absence on retiring from the service. An Order-in- Council is published in the Gazette that the Volunteer regulations of the 19th of October, 1874, shall remain in force until the Ist day of January next, and that the new regulations shall not come into force until that date.

The following appointments are gazetted :—: — Thomas Jas. Leary, of Dunediri, chemist, to be a member of the Pharmacy Board of New Zealand; William Copland 'to be clerk and steward, and Mrs Rebecca Huston to be a matron of the Dunedin Lunatic Asylumappointments to date from the Ist of July and 7th of November last respectively.
