Leading in is going on rapidly, and by tho end of the week vory little will remain in tho iWd. Some havo taken advantage of the line weathor to thresh out of the stobk. 'i'his is a riaky undertaking, but when it can be successfully done a jrreat saving ia effected in handling, and an equal saving of expense. Farming prospects aro looking rather more oncouraging with the rising price of grain. Though we need not expect a much higher price, still present quotations leave a maigin of profit of ler paying expenses. Last year this was nob tho case, and f-irinere cannot be expected to thrive without a littlo profit on their crops. Aftt.r all, the crops on the Toko. Plain aro very good. Any this have been threshed have yielded well. Everywhere tho turnip crop is excellent, so that thid district will be able throughout the winter to tend its .shave of fat sheep to market.

Since I last wrote death haa removed one of our oldest settlcis —Mr Jl 'Master, of Fassfern. Mr il 'Master was known to a wide circle of friends, and all who know him can testify to his sterling principles. He wai a sturdy Highlandman, and up to a year or two ago enjoyed robust health. But old ago creeps softly o'er us all, and latterly began to toll on him. Ho was 78 years of a,o when ho died, after a fhort illnofs. Ilia funoral wad attended by friends both far and near, many coming long distances to bo present at tho last and solemn duties whiuh the living ha olorerforru.
