OAMARU AUTUMN. Tho following is a condensed account of the Oamaru Autumn meeting :—

Rocket had the best of the start, and' Chancellor the worst. Nearing the straight ; tho first time Adamant took the lead, with Rocket running alongside, Chancellor still being 10 or 12 lengths in the rear. Legerdemain was running third, about two lengths behind Rocket, and Tasman two lengths from the filly. On passing the stand this order was still maintained, but after the first turn had been reached Adamant and Rocket increased their lead, with Chancellor 20 lengths in the rear. Legerdemain now made her effort, and racing up to Adamant, had his pretensions settled, and going on in advance the race looked a gift to her. However, before reaching the straight Tasman began to come, and under the whip was brought up alongside the filly ; but, until the up-hill running began his effort appeared a hopeless one. The filly tired on reaching the rise, and Tasman, amid some excitement, headed her, and after a good race won by a short length ; Adamant a length behind Legerdemain, Chancellor was about six or eight lengths away from the third, and; Bocket last. HANDICAP IIURDLE RACE, Of 40 soys. Two miles.

Rocket won' a'fter a fine finish by half-a-head, but Mokarakara ran round the very first hurdle and was not taken back, so that he could not have gained the stakes. Milo was a good third. Time, 4 mm. 7 sec. Of £281 in the totalisator £86 was on the winner, SELLING HURDLE RACE, Of 15 soys. Two miles. Weight not under 9st. Mr H. Schluter's b g Rattler .. (J.Allen) 1 Mr Reeves' bg Overdraft.. .. (A.Boyle) 2 Mr A. M'Kay's b g Naumat .. (A. M'Kay) 3 Won easily. Time, 4 mm. 27& sec. There was £193 in the totalisator, £88 being on the winner. The winner was sold to Mr D. O'Brien for £30. ST. PATRICK'S HANDICAP. Of 60 boys. One mile and a-half. The winner of the O&mtru Jockey Club Handicap to carry 71b extra. Mr M. Powell's blk mOn Dit, 5 yrs, Bat 21b (Bishop) 3 Redcliffe hung a little at the post, and the other two went off together. Nearing the stand Redcliffe came up to his opponents, and, with his stable companion, went on in front. The race was run in this order till near the j finish, when Redcliffe was allowed to win on suffrance from Coldstream. The whip was applied to On Dit, but she could not come near the leaders. Time, 2 mm. 50$ sec. There was £125 in the totalisator, £25 being on the winner.

Of £212 in the totalisator £57 was on On Dit, and £118 on Chancellor (divided). The horses were brought out again, and Chancellor taking the lead kept it to the finish, winning easily.
