HURDLE RACE.

(Murphy) 0 Mr Lovejoy's Skylark, aged, 9st 51b (Hamilton) 0 Agent was the favourite, at 6 to 4, with Skylark next in demand. The horses were sent away on the second attempt, and Potts led over the first jump. Skylark struck hard, and unshipped his rider, but was caught and remounted, only to come to grief.at the back of the course. Totara and Catch'em were allowed to cut each other down for a mile and a-nalr, after which the veteran was let go and soon took the lead, notwithstanding the efforts of the light-weights to keep with him. At the last jump Totara struck hard and Murphy was unshipped, leaving Catch'em to follow Ihe Agent in for the barren honour of second place. Time, 4 mm. 48 sec.

The betting was 3to 1 on Odd Trick. Major Morse's colt led from the jump. Kincraig made an attempt to get on terms with him at the back of the course, but failed. Bonnie Doon finished close to him; Kincraig with Frivolity about three lengths behind her. Time, 2 mm. 52£ sec.

WANGANUI CUP, Of 600 soys. Second horse to receive 75 soys., and third 25 sors from the stakeß. Two and a-quarter miles. Mr J. D. Powdrell's Hailstorm, by Pacific, aged, 7st 81b .. .. ..(T.Taylor) 1 Mr Martin's Virginia Water, 4 yrs, Sst 41b (Robinson) 2 Mr Westmacott's The Dauphin', 3 yrs, Bst 71b (including penalty) .. .. (Hoskins) 3 Sir Modred, Libeller, and Wilberforce also started. Sommis and Bluegown were scratched. Betting : 2to 1 agst Sir Modred, 3to 1 agst Virginia Water and Libeller, 10 to 1 agat Hailstorm. There was a good start, from which The Dauphin was first to show in advance, attended by Virginia Water, Wilberforce running very wide. After a mile had been done, Sir Modred was taken up, and, with Libeller and The Dauphin, made the pace warm. Half a mile from home Hailstorm commenced to go up. Goodman was hard at Sir Modred, but he ran unkindly, and Hailstorm passed his horses one by one, and entered the straight with a lead, the riders of Dauphin, Virginia, and Libeller all riding desperately, but were unable to get on terms with the son of Pacific, who won comfortably by two lengths. Time, 4 mm. 13 sec.

RAILWAY PLATE, Of 60 80V8. One and a-half mile. Weight for age. Mr Walters' filly, by Hippocampus— Slander (Hadfleld) 1 Mr Goodman's Sir Modred .. .. (Owner) 2 Mr Russell's Kincraig .. (Williams) 8 The others were scratched. Sir Modred was a hot favourite at 10 to son him. Kincraig led for half a mile, when the other two passed him. and the filly drew away and entered the straight with a slight lead. Sir Modred came with a determined rush, but could not get on terms with the filly, who won by a length. Time, 2 mm. 46| sec.

DISTRICT HANDICAP, Of 100 soys. Two miles. Mr Chitham's Dan, by Pacific, Bst 101b (Rowlands) 1 Major Morse's Odd Trick, 7st 51b .. (Williams) 2

This was a good race, and won by a bare head. Time, 3 mm. 48$ sec.
