WAITAHUNA.
(from our own correspondent.) March 14th.
Harvest work has boen going on since the middle of last month. The weather has been favourable forit, with tho exception of rain and moist weather on tho 4th and 6th : since when it has boon warm and dry, with only light easterly breezes. Tho last few days have been cloudless and hot, and good ripening weathor. There is a good deal of corn yet uncut. Tho crops are generally short in the straw, but tho corn is favourably spoken of. Tho rain would bo good for turnips and green crops genera'ly. Tho following residents wero nominated and elected aB tho Licensing Committee for Waitahuna and Clarks Eidiugs, viz. :— Alox. Fraser, Win. Livingston, F. Oudaillo, Martin Ryan, and George Stevenson. There is little to note about mining. The close warm days of late have caused a temporary stop to prospecting work in the Extended Company's mine. The warm dry weather reduces the flow of water in the races. Should the weather continue fine, the harvest will be got in safely, but with the equinox at hand, thore may be an unfavourable change ; in fact, the weather is now too fine to last long. Tho past few nights have been characterised by heavy dews. A dense fog occurred on the morning of the 3rd.
