Other Matches.

Saturday morning broke fine, and gave promise of a good day in the cricket field. Matters, however, took an unexpected turn, for shortly after 3 o'clock in the afternoon, just as the various matches were in full swing, the heavy thunderstorm completely stopped all play. On the Oval, where some four or five clubs were engaged, a general stampede was made for the pavilion, and in about 20 seconds there was not a man to be seen on the field. In a very short space of time the Oval was flooded, and the wickets in the centre pitch were surrounded by a poor of water two inches deep. In the match, DUNEDIN FIRST ELEVEN V. GRANGE EIGHTEEN, the former went first to the wickets, with the following result :— J. Leith.b Murray .. .. ..27 Garrard, b Espie .. .. ..16 J. Allan, b Esple .. .. ..0 C. The match between the Phoenix and Cansbrook Clubs was commenced on the Caledonian Ground, and when the rain came on the Phoenix, who went first to the wickets, had lost only one wicket for 30 runs. Spring was caught and bowled by Austin.
