Wanderers v. Phoenix.

This match was commenced on Friday, on the- Carisbrook ground. The wicket was in very good condition, and the day one of the finest for cricket that has been seen this season. The Wanderers, winning the toss, decided to go in, and succeeded in totting up 129 runs. T. D. Harman played well for his 60. The Phoenix began capitally, scoring their first 74 runs for the loss of three wicks in very quick time. Harris, when well set, was unfortunately run out. Wyinks made his runs in a careful manner. The last wicket fell for 113. Subjoined are the scores :—: —

This match was concluded shortly after 5 o'clock on Saturday, and resulted in a victory for the visiting team by 37 runs. The weather was gloriously fine, but, owing to the counter attraction of the races, the attendance was rather limited. The visiting team were all disposed of for 112 runs, bringing their total score up to 241. As will be seen from the scores, five of the Wanderers made a good stand, and T. D. Harman, who played a nice game, was top scorer with 24. Haskell was most successful with the'ball, taking seven of the wickets, though at a cost of 52 runs. Moore bowled 10 maidens, and took one wicket for 24 runs. The Phoenix in their second innings started badly, one wicket being down for no runs ; but when Haskell and Harris, the two left-handers, got together they made things rather lively, and sent ball after ball away to long-leg and other parts of the field. Clarke, who contributed 21, hit out at everything, and appeared to be well set when he was unfortunately run out. The fielding of the visitors was at times exceedingly loose, and < several very easy catches were missed during the innings. Hewlings, however, at long-leg, lidded beaiitifully, and his throwing-in was greatly admired by all present. Appended are details of Saturday's play :—
