PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Portobello Koad Board was held on the 25th uU. Present— Messrs J. Kerr (chairman), W. Dickson, W. Itobortson, J. Lowis, J. Gwyn, S. Morris, and K. Raynbird Correspondence — The collector handed in a list of rttepayers who had not paid tho , current year's rates up to the 24th ult., and also a list of arrears of rates of thepreviius year collected to the same date.— A letter was received from T. Wilson objecting to. pay rates on a section in Sandymount, aa ho had ceased to live on tho said section. It was decided to leave ■he matter in the hands of tho collector.— A copy of Mr Livingston's report in re the Board's account' was received from Wellington. Report read. -The collector reported that he had collected the sum ol £23 19a 3d of rates for the month.— A letter was received from Mr A. Clark, asking the Board to form the beach road from Young's Point towards Duckmanton's as per resolution' of the Board of some months back. It was resolved that tho Portobollo members call for tenders for tho work in question for next meeting.— Mr Dickson brought tho matter of the .portion" of road at Varley's before tho Board, and requested that tho matter might be considered. Ordered to stand over till next meeting.- A letter from the, Inspector of, Prisons was read stating that the prisoners would be removed when they arrived' at the point originally intended. The chairman stated that a deputation had waited on Mr Oliver in re the matter, and that it had been remitted to the Minister of Justicp.— A letter from Meßsrs Connell and Moodie in re the road through section 60, to the effect that Mr LarnacH wished to purchase, statingthat if theßoard wouldagree, he would get the road in question surveyed and deduct the amount from the rates due by him. ' 'It was resolved that the Board decline the offer.— A letter was road from Mr Young, asking the Board to define the road on the boundary of sections S3 and 'Ai, block V, Portobello, and also requesting a copy ot correspondence with the ehiet surveyor in re the road in question. It was resolved that the chairman and Messrs "Dicksbn and Morris wait upon the parties interested, and endeavour to sottiethe dispute, and report at next meeting.—A petition was received from a, number of sottlew in Arthur's Scat requesting that the Board do something towards repairing the county road between the drillshed and the entrance of tho Arthur's Seat road. It wa3 roaolved that the Portobollo members examine and report on the road in quostion for next meeting.-- The ohithman reported ho had visited the, beach road in Bioad Bay, and he wished the Board to arruigo about finding stono and material for a portion of the road. Resolved that the chairman arrange about tho matter. - A letter was read from Mr T. Qarr, requesting that something should be dono to tho road leading to his aoclion in Seal Point. Lettor received. Accounts to the amouut of £14 4b were passed fov payment. It was resolved that, as according to Mr Livingston's rspyrt., tho chargrs roado by Mr Sent on have not beon proved, that, gentleman bo rcquentcd to refuml to the B-vard the uudUor'n (Mr Youm?) account of £5, and thas the clerk forward the above resolution io Mr 1 wloa.
