A bill will be shortly introduced to Parliament asking authority for the conversion of the old Exhibition Building into a meat market. Sir H. Parkes stated that the coal companies not having applied for leave to bring out immigrant miners, the Agent-general has been instructed not to accept such immigrants. A dispute has arisen between the Primary Judge and the Master of Equity regarding payments for maintenance in a certain tenancy sait. The Judge peremptorily ordered the Master to obey his instructions. Dibbs, the defendant in the case of Shepherd v. Dibbs, has been arrested for non-payment of costs, and is now incarcerated pending the payment. He stated that he intended to remain in gaol for 12 months rather than comply with the demand. Intelligence has been received from Noumea of the total wreck of the Sarah Dreyfus on Cook's reef. The captain and crew were saved. She was insured for LSOO in the New Zealand and LSOO iv the National of New Zealand. A Noumea telegram states that two whites I and seven natives were capsized in a boat, owing to the wreck of the SeashelL They held on to a buoy all night. Four natives swam ashore. The whites were picked up, but three natives were drowned. In the inquiry re the Lady Emma, the Marine Board attributed the wreck to the default of the master, and censured the conduct of the mate. Coulthard, who confessed to having murdered his wife in England, now retract?, and says he made the confession while suffering from sunstroke. Thirty-seven Chinamen wore arrested on the 9th while gambling at fan-tan. Seven of them are very wealthy. The Executive have decided to hang Albert, an aboriginal, for murdering another aboriginal named Dubbo. Mr Van Wich, for many years with Siddely and Company, died very suddenly.
