COLONIAL PRIZE FIRING.

[By Telegraph.] (prom oue own correspondent.) The Colonml prize firing commenced at the Camp, Bridgewater, Nelson, on Tuesday, March 2ud, and was concluded on Monday, March Bth. Our special reporter informs us that the .arrangements for the firing could not well have been much worse, and that he had the utmost difficulty in obtaining a correct record of the scoring. The marking also was particularly bad ; and altogether the meeting of 1880 must be classed as the worst conducted for many years. We are at present writing from information mainly derived from telegraphic reports, and it is possible that in our next number we may be able to publish some circumstances in extenuation of these bad arrangements, and we trust that such may be the case. Private letters sent from the Camp bear out, however, the statements of our correspondent. We append a record of the scoring :—: — First Match.— Any member. At the 200 yards range the Northerner went away with a strong lead scoiing 236 against 223 by the Southern men. This advantage they further increased at 500 yards, and when at the luncheon adjournment they headed their opponents by 37 points, it aeehifid a foregone conclusion that they would win, The Southern men, however, now made a determined effort, and, gradually diminished the gap between the two teams until the last shot was fired, when they were declared the victors- by one point. It was a R&me, uphill (struggle, and the announcement was. received with ' considerable enthunasm. The following was the result:— 80 ™ IBLAI %O 500 '600 ■ . yds. yds. yds. Tl. Paynter, Nelson ..
