AUSTRALIAN.
Thos. Colsen and J. Boland have been fined one guinea each and seven guineas coats for selling tickets in a sweep. At Melton races, on tho 7th inst., the Shire Handicap waa won by Mr R. Baldwin's mare Violet, beating Kilmany, Prattle, and five others. In the Exford Plate Violet ran unplaced behind Kilmany, Litilo Nell, and Fitz. The iirst two of thcaa made a dead heat of ie, but in the run-off Kilmany won easily.
The Ararat Oup attracted 10 runners, and the winner turned up in Mr G. Day's maie Bouquet, with Diamond second, K.K. third. The Grand Stand Handicap fell to Mr R. Howie's Zephyr. On the socond day Bouqaet ahn landed tho Publicans' Purse, and Mr M'Olintock's Salisbury the Walter Handicap. Lilla, Olivia, nnd Recherche" have been scratched for the Sydney Oup.
For the principal handicaps afc tho V.R.C. meeting, commencing on March 2nd, the following acceptances have been received :■—

An account of tho contests for the Hobarfc Town Oup and the Sires Produce Stakes will be found below. In the latter race a great favourite was upset in Sir T. Elder's filly Meg Memlee?, by Gang Forward — Chestnut Gipsy, who ran po grandly at Geelong last month. The Maiden Plate was won by Mr C. M. Lloyd's colt Quilp, who thus followed up his Launceston puccesßes In tbo Hurdlo Handicap Mr 11. Yeend's Intrepid, ridden by Corrigan, started first favouvite, but waa beaten by Mr A. Keatny's maro Oaverzon.
