December 9th. The crops are in excellent condition. The late rainy weather just suits a hilly distriot like ours, and if we do not get too much of a good thing, we will have an abundant harvest. There is plenty of grass, too, on the hill sides^ and ' ' stock are looking well. Unleps the very wet weather we have been favoured with of late, ' however, gives place to sunshine, .the hay will ' be spoiled. The new church is now finished, and will be opened next Sunday. It is a neat and. com*,, modious building, capable of 'affording ample Bit- ' / ting room to the people of the distriot for years to come. Whooping cough has been very' prevalent,, and as a great many children could not attend ' sohool the school has been closed for five weeks.' This is somewhat unfortunate as, the holidays -, are soon coming on, and thus nearly" three months of < school-time will be lost. ' . Though this distriot is not very large yet. we ' '. have two stores. What we , want now to complete our business establishments is a hotel, for v , though we are a temperate community, Dame Rumour hath it that the cup which maketh glad , , the heart of man is procurable even iathia seoluded place. But perhaps this is only a report got up by the Good TemplarsT-a Lodge of that order having been established, in , the dia- ' , triot lately. However, I have no ; doubt the. „ .
