(Reuter's Special.) Melbourne, August 21st. An unexampled scene of violence took place in the Legislative Assembly last, night between Mr D. Gauuson, member for Ararat, and the Hon. J. B. Patterson, Minister of Public Woiks. The division on the Budget is expected to take place to-night. The Commercial Bank of Australia has resolved to increase its capital to £2,000,000. August 22ad. In the Legislative Assembly last night a division was) taken on the first item of the Budget. The Government had a majority of four. , A fire broke out to-day, fore and aft, on j board tho ship Ainazone, at Sandridg<>, j lately arrived from Liverpool. The ship was scuttled. Great damage was done to the ship and cargo. Mr Harper has been returned for West Bourke by a majority of 15. Important modiuoations in the tariff are expected. August 23rd. A collision occurred in the bay between the Claud Hamilton and the barque Eden. Both were damaged. , Messenger won the boat raca by two lengths. August 25 th. | Extensive modifications of the tariff are contemplated, and the introduction of a Stamp tax. A Ministerial caucus will be held on Wednesday to determine the changes. August 26th, Sailed : s.s, Ringarooma. Sydney, August 21st. The Austrian corvette Heligoland has arrived, bringing Commissioners and exhibits for the International Exhibition. August 25th. The Bismarck, German war-vessel, has arrived with exhibits. A difficulty has arisen between the managers of the Lambton Colliery *nd the miners, which will probably result in a. lock-out. Brisbane, August 21st. In the Legislative Assembly the Opposition are opposing the low estimates. The £100,000 vote for immigration was passed. August 22nd. The Assembly haa been adjourned, owing to obstruction. The session will probably be resumed on Monday. August 25th. The Gympie coach has been stuck up by an armed man, who took a quantity of jewellery, -which was afterwards rt covered, but the man has not yet been arrested. August 26th. The Oppoaitiou have withdrawn their obstruction in the Legislative Assembly. The debate on the loan and estimates has been resumed. Adelaide, Augusb 21st. Arrived : City of London, s.s. The Legislative Assembly his negatived the vote of want -of - confidence in the Ministry. (Special to Pbkss Association.) Mblbourne, Auguat 21st. A scene occurred iv the House. Gaunson accused Patterson of cattle-stealing, called him a whelp, a cur, atd a scoundrel, and bandied threats of violence. The bank robbers say the accountant was filled with abject fear, and the inhabitants disgracefully the same. The shareholders of the Commercial Bank have reeolved to issue 100,000 now £10 shares, increasing the capital to a total of ! £2,000,000. I Augusb 22nd. Mr Harper, the Opposition candidate, defeated Mr Deakin, Ministerialist, at West I Bourke, by 15. I Sydney, August 21st. Botterell, inventor of the wreck-raising apparatus, proposes to form a company and raise bullion' ships on the New Zealand I coast
