KYEBURN DIGGINGS.
(from our own correspondent.) February sth. In your issue of the Ist inst. I notice a long letter signed "Sluicer," purporting to be a reply to the remarks contained in mine of the 18fch ult. re the proposed new schoolmaster's residence here. Instead, however, of bringing forward evidence to disprove what I then wrote, he endeavours to draw attention from the real point in dispute by trying to justify the conduct of himself and those who acted with him in placing the school in its present unsatisfactory site— a subject to which I merely devoted one sentence, and that by way of introduction. Though " Sluicer " has disputed the whole of my letter, he has failed to disprove a single statement therein ; indeed, had he intended t o prove the truth of what I then wrote, he could hardly have adopted a better course. As to his advice to " employ my pen to a good purpose, to advocate the greatest good for the greatest number," I believe this is what I have done, the only difference between us on this point being as to whether the Upper Kyeburn or the general public constitute the greatest number.
