At Vinegar Hill, which is within two miles of Cambrian township, Messrs Thomas and Watson recently prospected for gold, and, it ia reported, obtained two or three grains to the dish. On the news becoming known, a representative from nearly every gold-mining company in the^ neighbourhood of Cambrian pegged out claims. Even the engineer of the Maniototo County Council pegged out a claim far himself. Legal forms will delay actual operations. I believe lam correct in stating that the prospectors will not go to any great expense until some of the other claims have been tested. If the Minister of Lands passes through here he will probably be deputationised PB the (subject of a channel for conveying water
