MAREWHENUA.
The members of the Marewhenna Mining Association are certainly taking time by the forelock in t'jeir endeavour to get a block of about 1500 acres of land, theremaining portion of Messrs Morton and M 'Master s'a run, reserved for mining operations. The lease of the ran will not expire until IS7S, but on the 17th of last month the Board, acting on a report from the Chief Sarveyor, to the effect that the land w<ts suitable for agricultural settlement, gave notice that it was not their intention to renew the lease. A deputation from the Marewhenua miners waited upon the Waste Lands Board on Wednesday, to urge the Board to defer opening the land for sale, owing to ita auriferous character. The DistrictLandOfficerhadreportedthatitwould he quite possible to sell a considerable portion of the land if proper care were taken to reserve all mining outlets, and the right to carry water rac?a where necessary, and the Chief Commissioner promised that when the tuna arrived for them 10 consider hovv the land was to be disposed of, due regard would be paid to the interests of the mining community.
