Correspondent. WEST TAIERI.

{from our own coerespondent.)

November 3rd.

A few days ago the residents in the immediate locality of the Serpentine and Linburn were thrown' into a state of excitement when an alarm was raised that a respectable female was lost in the ranges daring the progress of a recent blinding snowstorm in close proximity to the Serpentine Township. The greatest sympathy was manifested for her safety by the residents, and a large search party at once organised for the purpose of reacuinstthe woman from the perils of exposure and suffering. Briefly 1 may state the circumstances in connection with the case : Mrs Faulkner, a respected resident of many years' standing, left her own place- of residence f/> proceed to the Serpentine, in respect to some business transaction. After concluding her business in • satisfactory manner, she left the township on the afternoon of the day of her arrival to return home, when, owing to a blinding snowstorm coining on, she missed the right track to her home, and, I regret to add, was lost in the ranges for fonr days and nights in that inhospitable region. The weather at the time was very severe, consequently the woman's sufferings must have been most painfuL On the. morning of the fourth day she was rescued by one of the search party in a most wretched condition, Two snowstorms occurred during the period of her exposure. The greatest sympathy has been expretsed for the unfortunate sufferer. Her feat are frightfully swollen, And other symptoms ■how that she has passed through the ordeal of much mental anxiety.
