A degrea of jreat«r satisfaction pervades the market this week. Inquiry has been more general, while in ceita"i leading lines there h*s bee 1 ! some "'onsiderab!e business done. In brandy, although H >tne advices coutiuua to point to an inevitable rise, the market remains unaffected In Geneva, JDKZ ij in fair demand at 123 9d — a brisk demand being reported for small contents labelled and capsulled at 13s, trade parcels. Wine is dull. Imported ale and porter remain excepdinglj' quiet. In nle, there was a little spurt last week, bin; not enough to reach into this ; and both are actually almost as if out of the market. In tei, buyers still wait the arrival of our missing cargoes, In provisions, there is not much improvement to note. Cheese is becoming scarce, nnd sells at 6 1 per lb this week, it was quoted 6id last week. Candle', co-itinue dull. Price's are out of the market ; Dewoubaix'a are selling at S|d, Kerosene may be quoted (tbe usual market brands) at Is 81 in bond. Cornsacks are in 'leuaaad, and now worth Us 3d. Woolpacks can be bought for 3s 6d, but aro held by some parties for 3s 9d. Cement continues to rule high, althonsh recent arrivals have improved' the quantity of stocks on hand. In fmber, all kinds of colonial are* advancing in price, and kauri in particular. Mills are full of orders for the next two months. Red pins has advanced with tbe rest, the supply having been withheld lately because the bush mill proprietors have found the returns unremunerativa and discouraging ; but the whole tone of the market for colonial woods is at present lively and improved. Rice, Patna, new crop, is firmly held for £21 in bond. Fiour remains same as lust week; the millers' tariff being still £16 in 200lb aacks, £16 5s in 1001b bags, £16 10s in 50lb bage. Grain of all kinds is declining in value. Wheat is hell for less nominally than it was last week — say for from 63 to 7s, according to n-impie ; but nullors refus* to srivc more for good samples than from 6s to 6s 3d. Oats are held firmly at from 3s ld to 3s 3d for good milling, and from 2s 9d to 3s for feed. Barley is neglected. Pearl barley is selling at £20. O.itmeal is quo ed at £17i bran at £4 ss, pollard at £7.
