BOATING CLUBS.
The Times says:— lt hag often excited ftnrprue in places outside the city of Nelson that no boating clubs existed here, when the splendid harbour is taken into consideration. There are very few places in New Zealand possessing such facilities for aquatics, either rowing or sailing j and with the number of young men -which this place possesses, it is no wonder that surprise is felt in other placet, less advantageously situated, at, the absence of any such pastime. Christchurch, without other opportunities than those afforded by the River Avon, has its boating clubs : Wellington has also its boating clubi ; and at Port Chalmers we notice by a recent exchange that a meeting has been held and a committee appointed for the purpose of initiating a rowing club. . Here the same thing might be done if some one would take the initiative ; and we feel sure if such a thing was only once set afloat, that there would be no lack of aspirants for memberahip. Should such a club be formed there can be no doubt that in any Provincial regatta Nelson athletes would not occupy an inferior olace.
