DR JENNER'S PROTEST.
We have been favoured with the following copy of Dr Jenner's protest against the appointment of Bishop Nevill to the See of Dunedin. We understand that it has been forwarded by Dr Jenner to the IDriin;ite1 D riin;ite of New Zealand :—: — To the Right Rev. the Primate of the Branch of the United Church of England and Ireland in New Zealand. I, Henry Lascelles, the rightful Bishop of the See of Dunedin, do hereby solemnly protebt against the proposed intrusion of the Eev. S. T. Nevill into the said See as uncanonical and schismatical. I declare that I treat as void and of no effect the resolution passed by the General fcfyiwd held at Dunedin in the month of February last, in which it is resolved "That the .Synod refuses to sanction the nomination of Bishop Jeiuier to the See of Dunedin, whether that nomination were in due form or otherwise." I utterly decline to accept the '*' sympathy" offered to me by the Synod, "m the painful position iv which I have been placed," inasmuch as it is the Synod itself that is alone answerable for my occupation of that position. Aiul I give notice to all whom it may concern, that I intend to employ all lawful means in my power to obtain possession of the rights and privileges to which my consecration to be Bibhop of Dunedin entitled me, but which have hitherto been unjustly and violently withheld from me. Witness my hand, this 31st day of May, 1871. Henry Lvscj:i.i.js .Ip.xvkk, D.D., Consecrated Bishop at the request of the Church in Mew Zealand, expressed through its then Metropolitan, to be Bishop of the Diocese of Dunedm.
