This delay has caused reports to be current regarding internal dissensions in the Ministry. The reports of the discovery of gold in Ohinemuri, and the friendly intentions of the natives, are both proved to be without foundation. News from Fiji by the Merlin states that an indignation meeting had been held at Levuka to protest against Lieut. Woods drilling the natives, and that a deputation had waited upon him regarding the matter. Lieut. Woods replied that it was necessary to drill the men in order to conquer and punish tho mountaineers, and told the deputation that those who disapproved of the Government could leave the country. Some of the country districts have sent in resolutions approving of the Government, while in others strong opposition is manifested. The elections are proceeding vigorously.
The Herald this morning is informed that Maafti has submitted to Thakombau. This is important if true, but requires confirmation.
