Otago Witness Office, Hay 27, 1864. English advices appear to have had no influence upon priced here. It was hoped, as we are direct importers from Europe, that we could have competed successfully with Melbourne in supplying the Otago miners at Marlborough, who nad formed tonnections with our own traders; but the reaction which has just tali en place will render it advisable not to ship for the new gold fields until spring. In the meantime miners are flocking back to their old haunts hi Otago, and our business men take a mqre nvorable view of the future ; for tha return of so many at tkis inclement season of the year would indicate that there is •omething more real and substantial about the Otago gold
