DENMARK.

The great event in Europe is the Danish Duchies question. The German Powers have seized possession of Holstein, and demanded that of Schleswig, with a threat of force if the demand is not complied with.

War between Germany and Denmark seems inevitable, to be soon followed by a general European war. There is, in consequence, great uneasiness.

Prince Frederick of Augustenburg has been proclaimed Duke of Schleswig Holstein.

Russia claims the Gottorp portion of Holstein, and dissension exists among the German powers on this question.

The attitude of Austria and Prussia towards Denmark excites much comment in England and France.
