MEETING OF THE NATIONAL VEREIN.
Dresden, 24th Sept. The first meeting of the National Verein has taken place under the presidency of M. Wigard, formerly a representative at the Frankfort Diet, and compromised in the revolution of 1849. M. fc'chultze Deiistchez severely criticised the proceedings of the Frankfort Congress. He said that on that occasion Austria had acted solely in her own dynastic interests, and added that the meeting of the SovereiiXDS ha-1, in reality, been brought about by the National Verein, He declared that the German people .would not give their ndhesion to the project which their ru era had approved, and, in conclusion, warmly advocated a return to the Constitution which had been yoted by the Parliament of Frankforf in 1849. M. Eewiszer, who spoke to the same effect, coa-
eluded his speech with the words— -"We are the state.' Both speeches produced a great sensation. The National Verein will shortly hold a meeting at L°ipzic. M.M. Clam Gallas, representative for Austria; Yon Feder, for Bavaria; and Kleine Hoeffer, for the Grand Duchy of Hesse, have just arrived here, for the purpose of inspecting the Saxon Federal Contingent.
