[For the " Victorian."] 1. Happy little baby boy ! Thou ray pride, my priceless treasure ; What will be thine earthly measure-— Sparkling little human toy ! — Most of care, or most of pleasure 1 11. As I watch thy joyous face, Radiant with its endless smiling, • Cherished hopes my fears beguiling, Vainly do I strive to trace Praise in store, or men's reviling. 111. What will be thy destiny I What the pith that thou stialt travel, Virtue's tin f, or Vice's gravel ? Help me with that twinkling eye Kite's enigma to unravel. IV. Vacant — smiling little pet ! Could I, through th 1 mists discerning— Future's secret plots be learning ; How thy risen sun .shall set — Dimmed by clouds, or grandly burning. , v. I would scarcely seek to know ; Lest the knowledge, joy dispelling, All my present rapture* quelling— Glimpses of thy manhood's woe J l f ill my soul with fisree rebelling. VI. Sleep my brisrht one; and in dreams Heaven-sent : as thou art sleeping, Picture not thy mother weeping. He will guide as best beseems : Rest thee baby in his keeping !
