CROQUET.

lhe official opening 1 of the Croquet green took - place on , Saturday afternoon. Mr G. Sinclair welcomed the large attendance of - members and friends to the 10th .annual opening 1 . H« said it was gratifying td know the Club had made such progress since its inception. Last season they had played four inter-club, matches t two in Invercargill and two on the. local green, tq win three. This showed the standard- of play- compared favourably with the City Chibs. Several " members had also taken part in > the Southland Tournament to make a very creditable performan ce. On. behalf of the executive Mr Sinclair extended an invitation to the many ladies present not members to join up and be able t 0 play. He could assure them all they would be well coached by Miss Hay. In declaringthe" g^een, open, he trusted the Club would enjoy a prosperous season an I called upon Mrs Sinclair, President of" the Croquet Club to play the first ball. The ladies provided a dainty afternoon tea, after which a number of. competitions, were held, the winners being, Clock, Mrs Jas. Hall; Ladies' Golf, Mrs G H. Hodges ;. Gents' Golf , Mr A. I. Milne and French CroqueVj Mrs Jas. Hall. Those present were:— ~" . Mesdames Sinclair, Duncan, White. Stevens, Chandler, Forteoua, Hall McCulioch, Ireland, Renowden, McDougall, Baker, G. B.
