An enthusiastic meeting to form a Progressive League was held m the Board Room of the Town Hall last Wednesday evening, there being present : Messrs R. Scatter (chairman), G. Burnett, J. Kerr, G. Georgeson, G. Sinclair, L. Brown, W, Donnan, J. Thomson, P. Brown, W. J. Wesney and W. Porteous. Mr Wesney, m outlining the pur pose for which the meeting was called, referred to the possibilities of advancement m Otautau, which was a good commercial, stock and timber centre. The speaker thought that a Progres sive League would be the besfc step to take m pushing Otautau ahead, The Society, if formed, would consist of Beautifying, Industries, Commercial, Advertising, Summer and Winter) Show Sub. committees. The advent of the proposed new sawmill meant employment for a large number of hands, for which house 3 would have to be built, and this would give employment to a number of carpenters. This, he believed, would be the first move for the advancement of Otautau. There was no reason why n fell* mongery, canning factory, or freezing works Bhould not be started m Otau tau. One of the first things for the Society to do would be to get a resident dentist, a solicitor, and a photographer, each of these profes sions being unrepresented, at the present time, and would be the means of bringing unlimited business into the town. A general discussion ensued, m which Meesrs Burnett, Sinclair, Kerr, Brown and Georgeson took put, and eventually it was decided to fdrm a Progressive League m Otautau. Mr W. J. Wesney was appointed chairman, and a secretary is to be elected at the roee'ing on Friday evening.
