Feldwick Notes.

From Our own Correspondent. Owrim* to the outbreak of tlie influenza epidemic, the annual presentation of school prizes for good conduct and diligence during tho year was postponed till the opening of the school this year. On Tuesday last' the presentation ceremony took place when each pupil received an inteivsting aud beautifully bound book, and als > a packet of sweets. Patriotic addresses and songs were given, and the joyful exuberance of the children finally found vent m three heirty cheers for the .Sohool Committee. In common with the re3t of Southland, the continuous cold and wet weath .t has retarded the growth of all cereals and (rops. Even under the most favourable weather conditions during the next two months, harvesting this yeai will run well into the month of May. In the Western District, however, grass is abundant and evsry class of stock is looking well. I regret to record that .Sergeant-major A. Kynastou, who recently returned from Trentham, Ins been under an operation m Inveroargill hospital. An injury to his back caused a growth whicli had to be removed. This was successfully performed, and the gallant sergeant is now fairly recovering.
