Edison, is said to be both simple and practical. A little desk instrument is used, by means of which one of the parties to the telephone talk may record ■'•he , conversation on a phonopr&ph cylinder. -4. •' . ■ The process 1 is as follows: — "Ira* receiver of the regular desk-telephone is first, removed from the hook and placed m tlie socket of the telescribe ; then the user takes up a small receiver, which impart of the telescribe, and gives his call to ifce -exchange. He can start and stop the dictating machine by means of two small- buttons on the telescribe m order to record the conversation between pauses or delays, thus avoiding * any waste of running "'*■ the wax cylinder meanwhile. Both, sides of the* telephone conversation are recorded, including all evidence of the central opera- , tor's voice m making connection. .The v telescribe, it is believed, will place the • use of the telephone m a: more serious light ih business. After a conversation the dictator will turn to his dicta£ihff* machine, and confirm his message m the usual manner covering the . general understanding.
