WALLACETOWN STOCK SALE.
SHARP RISE IN BEEF.
The usual fortnightly sale was held on Tuesday, when there was a fair average attendance of buyers. Fat Cattle — only 64 yarded, and little of it was of prime quality, there being more cows than bullocks. Best br Hocks £8 7s 6d to £10 10s, medium £7 158 ; best cows £7 10s to £8, extra £9, medium £5 10s to £6 12s 6d.
Store Cattle— s24 yarded. There was a good sale for good forward bullocks, and competition was decidedly keen. Younger cattle were dull of sale, though any lots indicating breeding sold well up to last sale's values. £10 7s 6d was paid for an Ayrshire cow newly-calved, forward bullocks from £7 to £7 6s, steers £3 5s to £6 ss, dairy cows (close on profit) averaged from £6 to £7 10s, heifers and young cows from £4 lbs to £5 10s, yearlings £1 10s to £2 10s, and calves from 10s to 355.
Fat Sheep — 943 penned. Good well-finished-off wethers were worth from Is to ls 6d more than at previous sale. Best wethers 14s 6d to 18s 2d, ewes from 9s 4d, 10a 3d, lis, tol3s6d.
