Harvest Thanksgiving services m connection with tbe Anglican Church will be held rin Sunday afternoon next at 3 p.m. Contributions of fruit, vegetables, etc., will be received on Saturday afternoon at the church, aivl after the service will be forwarded as a donation to the Eiverton Hospital. Mr A. H. McLean, Government 'Audit Inspector, is at present m Otautau making the annual audit of the County Council and Town Board accounts. The financial year for puulic bodies ends on 31st March, and the two iocal bodies are the first to be audited. The Otautau Lawn Tennis Club are holding a progressive euchre social m tbe Otautau Town Hall to-morrow evening. A good programme of cards and dancing has been drawn up and a good eight's entertainment is assured. Play is to commence at 8 p.m. sharp. The Town Board has received 'information that tbe last instalment of L2OO on account of the loan from the Government for street improvements is being placed to tbe credit of the Board m the bank of New Zealand at once. This will put the Board m funds to carry out some more.of the works scheduled. The quarteily address to children by the pastor of the Presbyterian Church was given by Eev. Mr Macdonald on Sunday morning, when there was a good attendance of both children and their patents. The address was on the words, " Despise not the day of small things." Hymns, suitable to the occasion, were rendered by the choir. A very en joyabl^ Harvest Home gathering took place m Mr A. Eoy's barn last Wednesday evening, at which a number of residents—friends of Mr and Mrs Boy— were present, and were tbe recipients of much hospitality from- the host and hostess. Music and dancing helped to make a very pleasant evening, at the conclusion of which a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded by the' company to Mr and Mrs Roy. Talking of big potatoes, the following will take some beating. Last week Mr T. E King brought intc this office a potato of' the Up-to-date variety, weighing 3lbs, 2ozs., and which was one of a root which turned out 311b5.-all good potatoes. The one shown us was perfect m shape, and without a blemish of any sort. Mr King dug from a piece of ground 30ft. square, 1 ton of potatoes. This would give a returu of over 48 tons to the aero. % Mr G. Ross, Main S.t, Otautau has just landed a large assortment .of overcoats, including latest fashions m tweeds. He has also a fine assortment of North British rubber coats, oilskins, and duck coats for winter wear. A visit will repay anyone m need of these comforts. Mr Beckett has received intimation that the Eev. George Laverty,— Foreign Mission delegate from New South Wales— will be m Otautau on Monday next. Mr Laverty is described as a fluent speaker, and he has a | ood s *°ry to tell of mission work m the South Seas. A hearty invitation is given to everyone to attend Mr Laverty's meetim* on Monday evening m the Methodist Church. The choir will sing appropriate anthems. A collection for work among the heathens of New Guinea, New Britain and New Georgia (Solomon's) will be taken np. • A SUCCESSFUL SEPARATOR. At the Agricultural Show of the Deutsche Landwirtschafts- Gesellschaft held at Berlin last June, the members of the Jury, Messrs Dr Martiny, Dr Nachtweh and Prof. Dr Vieth, recognised that owing to their ingenious construction, the Baltic Hand and Power Cream Separators deserved and should be tested at the Govt. Dairy Institute at Hameln under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Vieth. These test? have now been completed having lasted 3 months, and on account of the excellent results obtained, all machines have been awarded tne Society's Diploma of Honour and Great Bronze Medal.
