Cricket
The opening match of the Otautau Cricket Club was held on Wednesday afternoon, when a large number of members and intending members werepresent. Sides were chosen - on. tbe ground by Messrs King and Walla/Be. The latter won the toss and decided to bat. De Joux an,d Gunn werejhe first to face the bowling, and m«de a fine stand, the partnership producing 81 runs. The i»maining batsmen failed, however, to make any stand against the excellent bowling of their opponents, and the innings closed for 74 runs. The other .side then went m to bat, .but. were -all disposed of for 42 runs, leaving Mr Wallace's team winners by 8$ vvuxa. For the winners Gunn (24) and'De Joux (17) showed excellent form, and for the losers Dimmock (21) and King were the mbst successful.. Wallace, Tennant and Dhriniock were the most successful bowlers for the winners, while Durham; W. Dimmock and l Coulter, divided' the honours fo? the losers.
