HEDDON BUSH NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Sept. 25. Owing to the very unfavourable weather, the ball, held on the evening of the 15th inst, m aid of the Public Hall funds, was but poorly attended r and as the committee had made provision for a large gathering, the result did not add much to the finances of the institution. However, those who were present spent a most enjoyable time. The music, supplied by Messrs Egan and Boyle, was most charming, and the catering ol Messrs Kingsland and Son fully up to the reputation of that firm. Mr Tornlinson acted as a most efficient M.C.

The annual bachelors' ball has been fixed for the i 3th October.

On the evening of the 20th inst , the Wintdn-Reddon Bush Railway Committee met. ', i\ Though the night was rainy and pitchy dark, the various branches were well represented. The chairman, : Mr Hassing, read a petition he had -.prepared, and this met with the entire approval of the committee. It was deemed advisable to obtain tHe signatures of leading business men m Winton, and. forward the petition by first mail. The petition, with 224 signatures attached, has since been forwarded to Sir J. G.Ward. Ihe committee declared that this proposed extension of the railway from-. Wmton had been taken upmost enthusiastically by settlers over the whole afea included m its operation. Ihe chairman promised to use his best endeavours to obtain the support of the Press m favour of the movement.

Mr Hkssing moved, and Mr Watson seconded, the following resolution, which was carried :—-" That, with a view ol strengthing the scheme by co-operation and affiliation, the secretary, Mr J. Boyle, jnr., open up correspondence with the Southland Railway League, Invercargill." It was agreed that all members of committees contribute 2s 6d each to defray hall charges, postage, stationery, and other current expenses. After reviewingand discussing the proposed railway scheme, the meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair.
