Except the continue! firmness of t.\e Southland oat m >rket' there is little to repo'-t this w- el 1, for the total sales made by brokers during the past week would not exceed a thousand sacks. Merchants are holding out firmly for 2s f.o.b Bluff and thi=* price seems to have temporarily stopped business being done with both North Island and Aus'ralia'n. markets. An inquiry for from ten to fifteen thousand sacks, supposed to be for Africa, hts be n received by the local brokers, to which they have replied 2s f.o.b, bu> as the offer is open until Saturday next, it is impossible to say whether the order will be secured or not. At pres-nt the stores at Bluff contain less grain than many merchants can ever remember at this time of the seasoa. Ninety thousand sacks will total the lot, and fully one half of these have already been sold for forward delivery; Farmers continue to hold out foi higher prices, many of them being of opinion that tjiey will receive 2s on trucks before long, hence very little busines has been done m buying, and what has been bought have been storage lots. To farmers merchants are still offering Is 7d tb Is 8d for B grade at country stations and a half-penny less for f.a.q lims. Chaff is m good demand 70s to 72s 6d f o.b s.i. Bluff, but is "hard to buy at 45s to 47s 6d on trucks, farmers evidently being too busy to cut and cart same. The demand from Auckland for linseed m small lines at £13 per ton continues good, but the amount available m Southland is under 25 tons.
