FIRE PRECAUTIONS.

(To the Editor). Sir, — Your correspondent, Citizen, has sounded a very necessary warning about making some provision for protecting our houses against destruction by fire. All the lessons taught by the destructive fires which have at various times raged m most New Zealand towns, do not seem to make much impression on the local authorities of towns which have so far escaped this scourge. As an owner of house property, I join with Citizen m expressing the hope that the chairman of tho Town Board should call a meeting early to consider the formation of a fire brigade, and making the water supply we have of some service m protecting our homes. I mind about two years ago the Town Board were offered a cheap fire engine, whioh they did not take, and which, I think, Nightcaps bought. Hoping something will oome of the suggestion made, — I am, etc., Householder.
