V.M.B.C. UNION.
Under lhe auspices of the above union an entertainment of a h'ghly novel, and entertaining natuie, took place m the Town Hall, Otautau, on Thursday, the 4th inst. Before th. entertainment Mr Muir^ leader of the class, explained the progress the class was making, numbering at present 40 young men members, and they had promoted the evening's programme with f a view to arousing further interest m the class, and with the hope that it would be instrument d m adding to the membership. He then introduced Professor Gasit*, who had undertaken to give the evening's entertainment on behalf of the class. The Professor, fjr one and a half-hours, succeeded m completely mystifying his audience with a number of clever tricks and sleight of hand business, keeping up a running comment all the time, which was very amusing. A couple of well-known residents were invited On the stage to "assist" as the professor put it, and were made the means of much harmless enjoyment. The Indian Box Trick was carried out with a juvenile member of the class, who was securely tied up m a bag and then fastened' down m a box, and, after some necromancy by the Professor, bobbed up. serenely before the audience. Mr D.«Collett rendered a couple of exceptionally clever whistling solos, and Mr.James Dickson, accompanied by Mrs Dickson, sang "lhe British Lion." The performance was brought to a close by a most laughable exhibition by two members of the class, Messrs C. C. Evans and K. Gunn, iv some CMiiic wrestling. ■-..'"■
