OPUNAKE BEACH
ANNIVERSARY WEEK-END BIG. CIIOWDS ATTEND The continued . fine wentire* oyer last week-end favoured picnic parties and family groups who spent the days at the popular Opunake beach and big crowds were present each day and particularly on Anniversary Day when the Da tea Freezing Work s picnic was held. Nearly 800 came by special train, on this occasion and a well-organised programme handled by the picnic committee helped to make the day a very pleasant one. Sideshows were conducted by the Recreation Ground Development committee. The surf club members wore on duty each days. The New Plymouth Alpine Club members also enjoyed a long week-end at the beach, and took the opportunity to climb to Blame’s Falls on Sunday, one or two local residents joining the party. It is understood that Easter camp lookings are fairly heavy, partly due to the increase expected in entries for the Opnmake Tennis Cub’s annual tournament.
