SEASIDE SOCIETY

RECORD CAMP FEES IMPROVING FACILITIES The President, Mr. A. E- McDonald presided over a full attendance of members of the Opuinke Seaside Society, held in the Council Chambers on Thurs!av evening. Two highly satisfactory features of the financial statement presented was the credit balance

-I- £179-14-2 (the first time the ■society lias been able to> liquidate iis overdraft for some years) and the camp fee receipts of £248-1.1-0, a record over all the years if operation. Camp fees last year were £l2B-12-6 and in 1946-47 1:217-9-6 (the previous highest 4pure). When 4t is considered ihat the annual balance is not until September and the camp season will continue until Easter, an indication of the greatly increased popularity of the beach is very apparent, and directly reflects the success of the recent Mardi Gras. The debit balance at tlie beginning of the year was £391-1-8.

It was decided to fix ' camp fees at 15/- per week or 3/6 per uiolit as from October Ist., 1949.

The meeting carefully discussed suggestions for improved Camp facilities, including increased ablution space, more conveniences, better kitchen facilities, hot showers and mirrors in the men’s ablution rooms and drainage work in the area. A sub-committee. Messrs. I- Segar, J. K. Somervell and J.
