HEADMASTER’S REPORT SWIMMING INCIDENT The headmaster, Mr. F. J. McLaughlin, reported for the month aw follows: Seoandai'y Department Roll: 152. Swimming Sports; These were held at the Maiiaia Baths on 291 b February. Owing to the school being closed last February these were the first swimming sports held for two years. The standard of the top section Ayas very good, but it Avas evident from the style of many that the lack <>f facilities in Opnnake is a handicap. The secondary pupils and staff are appreciative of the cooperation of the Manaia authorities and it is recommended that a donation be made as has been done in the past. SAvimming Incident: Full information is available concerning the SAvimming incident last month. The folloAving facts are noted: (1) There Avas no negligence, all customary precautions having been taken. (2) The behaviour of the pupils aaius commendable, and there was steadiness throughout. (3) The action of several pupils avlio went to the assistance of others reflected credit both to themselves and to those responsible for instruction in life-saving in Opnnake. Primary Department Roll: 345. .Staff: Miss King has been granted leave to attend university as a full time student. Mrs, Frechtling is relieving in her place. The Board has appointed Mrs. McLaughlin, Avho Avas the only applicant, to the newly created position of part time clerical assistant. Mrs. McLaughlin has commenced duty. Egmont County Sports: The primary school competed in the Kgmoiit County Sports as four schools. One of the ‘schools’ won the points trophy for larger schools. During the past few weeks a large number of children haA’C received training in athletics. Projection Room: The curtaining of a room in tin 1 high school for the screening of films for both departments m expected to be completed Avithin the next feAV days.
