In this connection we have sent 'to British Red Cross 25 parcels each of 22 lbs. weight and a total value of over £45. We are pleased to say that every parcel reached its destination, and was acknowledged. We also sent overseas 508 articles of clothing. Many of these were new, and we are grateful to all who helped us with this effort. A donation of £5 was made to the United Nations Children’s appeal, and assistance with clothing given to .a local case of distress. Books and magazines were collected and given to the local hospital and to the ITawera sub-centre for their hospital library service. Handkerchiefs were made up for soldiers in hospital and a large quantity of wool is on hand for pullovers for veterans homes. Our membership is now 85. A special effort was made this year to enrol members, as membership last year was very low. We would like to have still more members in our Red Cross Society, and would ask all interested in our work to join up. Meetings have been held monthly, and excellent attendances maintained.
