COUNTY COUNCIL

ORDINARY MEETING GENERAL BUSINESS The ordinary meeting of the Egmont County Council was held in the County Chambers on Tuesday, the Chairman, Mr. W. C Green presiding. Present: Crs. R. H. Baylis, E. E. Chapman, S. Earquhar; R. M. Cathie, G. Sayed, R, Cassie, the County Engineer, Mr. It. S. Martin and the County Clerk, Mr. C. Erechtlmg. Apologies were received from Crs. G. D. Dawson and CR> Stronge. Following a short discussion it was decided to instruct the engineer to fence the metal pit on the property of Mr. A. J. Lilley, tbfe clerk being instructed to officially advise the owner of the property that the council hs|d abandoned the pit and on completion of the fencing, the onus of maintenance of the fence in future would be the liability of the- property owner. The- sanitary inspector reported a s follows: Drainage approved i; Drainage set out 2; Housing 1; Food premises 2. Notification of an allocation of £750 towards the cost of controlling Ragwort in the Egmoni County was received from the Department of. Agriculture. This was an increase of £IOO over last year.—Received. Farmer to be Assisted

Mr. G. P. Bourke, Pihama, wrote requesting the Council's assistance in forming and metalling a track in to the cowshed on his property. Because of the shape of the farm he. would have to'build the cowshed about 35 chains from the road, and a road to the shed would be needed. Mr. R. M. Cathie supported the application.

"Whether the job is big or small we should treat all returned soldiers in the same way," said Mr. G. M. Sayed. If the plant was available the .work should be done at cost, said the chairman, Mr. W. C. G. Green. The council wanted to assist returned men but it must also consider the ratepayers' interests.

The engineer was instructed to have the work done when plantis, available during October or November as convenient.

Further correspondence on behalf of the Warea Dairy Co., from the Company's solicitors, concerning the taking over of the tight of way to the factory was considered by the Council. The county clerk was instructed to obtain the necessary legal opinion before reaching its final decision. The county engineer stated that the metalling of the right of "way should be commenced this week, provided the good weather holds. A resolution fixing the weight limits for heavy motor vehicles on the following county roads wap passed. Waitekauri Stream Budge, Coast Road; Waiweranui Stream Bridge, Okahu Road; Mavimum weight 7 tons, maximum axle lead, 3 tons; Cape Road Bridge, Stent Road Bridge, 8 tons?, 'H tons. Accounts totalling £3,285-34 were passed for payment.
