APPEAL FOR CHILDREN
UNITED NATIONS EFFORT LOCAL MEETING Only 8 persons attended the I td.vic meeting; called for the purpose of discussing plans to assist and promote the appeal for funds to assist hungry children in all rails of Europe. The deputy Mayor. Mr, H. Clement presided. Apologies were received from the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. R. Hughson, Rev. P. H. Warren and Mr. C. Harding.
Several suggestions were dismissed and the town clerk, Mr. H. E. Collins, read circulars outlining the plans for the appeal which will commence in May. The main literature in support of the appeal would be sent out through schools and direct to farmers and .businessmen early in May, It was emphasised that the slogan was “Give a day”— the object all over the world for citizens to give a day’s wages, a day’s products, etc. The amount of course may be spread over a mouth or so.
It was finally decided to leave the discussion over until tbe Mavor returns, and until more detailed information became . available, when a further public meeting would be called, probab-i Iv early in May.
