CABLE LAYING
MODERN DEVICE LOCAL INTEREST Much local interest was displayed in the , modern cable laying equipment used by the P. & T. department's outside staff, who have been engaged in sinking underground telephone cable along a number of streets in the Borough during the week.
The cable is “threaded” into the device, which is pulled behind a heavy tractor and when in motion sinics the cable to a depth of between IS inches and 2 feet, leaving it completely covered in the process. The whole operation over a street length of say ,100 yards, is completed in less than 5 minutes.
It is reported that reasonable sized rocks if or when encountered, seldom present difficulties..
