WEEK-END BOWLING
TARANAKI RINKS FINAL OTHER FIXTURES Six Opunake rinks will meet Paritutu in the Taranaki Shield Rinks final, three rinks playing at Opunake and three at Paritutu. A New Plymouth commentary states that it would appear that Paritutu should have little difficulty in repeating last year’s performance by recording another success and adds :
“They will be engaged against Opunake on Saturday in the grand final encounter, and as the western division winners only fidd six teams, the selector at Paritutu, will be able to put in the field fours of open tournament standard which will be a tough proposition for their opponents, who won the right to contest the final by their defeat of the Kaponga dub in the other semi-final game on Saturday. In view of the fact that Opunake has never previously won the shield, they will, of course, be all out to try and register their first success, and much credit will be due to their teams should they defeat the powerful Paritutu combinations.’ 1 Western Division Junior and Senior Champion of Champion Singles will be played at the local green tomorrow, commencing at 9 a.m. A trip to Eltham and Stratford has also been organised for the following day and 8 rinks will leave by bus from the greens at 8 a.m. Shield rinks selected are as follows :
At Paritutu: Hume, O’Sullivan, Alger, T. H. H. Sinclair (s); Davey, Julian, A. Sinclair, Thomas (s); Siddells, McLaughlin, A. Hickey, K. Bilev (s). At Opunake: G. King, Hall, Feaver, Moron (s); McGaughey, Radich, Mac Lean, Des Forges (s); Wallis, Jenkins, E. Riley, Baylis (s).
