RED CROSS
MONTHLY MEETING ANNUAL APPEAL The usual monthly meeting of the Opunake Red Cross Society was held last Wednesday when there was an excellent attendance. Mrs. Watt reported briefly on the Centre meeting held at Hawera in September. A short report of items of interest from the Annual Dominion Conference held at Auckland was also given. Two letters from the British Red Cross, Loudon, were read. These were acknowledging food parcels sent by the Opunake Red Cross. Mrs, Hickey and Mrs, Hammond offered to pack the parcel for October. Advice was received that a case of fat and soaps sent by the Opunake, committee in September had been consigned from New Plymouth for shipment to England by the “Akaroa.” Chrildren’s garments were handed in by several members, and each member brought a tin of food for the October parcel. A donation of ,£3-3/- was made to the Leper Fund. Arrangements were made to accompany Mr. Mclntosh of the Blind Institute on his annual canvas of the town. The thanks of the committee are given to Miss Fake and to Mr. John Hickey who have undertaken this important task. Full arrangements were macie for the annual appeal for funds which will be held on November 10th. A shop day will be arranged, and the committee hopes to receive every assistance from the public and Red Cross members in stocking the mart. It was decided not to have a house to house collection, but to look to the generosity of the public on the day of the appeal.
