JAYCEE SOCIAL TEA

INSTRUCTIVE DEBATE ELECTION PLATFORM The usual three weekly social tea was held in the Bowling Club’s rooms on Monday evening, Mr. C. Wilton presiding over a fair attendance of members. An apology was received from Mr. C. Burton. A most instructive debate, “Whether a vigorous immigration policy would be in the best interests of New Zealand,” was judged by Mr. F, J. McLaughlin, who imparted much useful information on the art of debate. Only two speakers, Air. K. Somervell (affirmative) and Mr. D. M. Jillett (negative) presented prepared cases, the other speakers supporting the debate leaders with impromptu opinions. The chairman Thanked Mr. McLaughlin for his assistance, the motion being carried by acclamation. At the conclusion of the debate the manifesto outlined by the sub-committee was react and carefully discussed. It was decided to call a full meeting of members at an early date to finalize the election campaign plans. The President, Mr. A. Hume, also briefly outlined the activities at the recent Junior Chamber Conference.
